Random Favorite Photos

Here are two photographs that I really like, Vista the black cat that lives on my in laws ranch house and this cool bell that was used to call the kids in when dinner was ready:) way back in the days. Visiting these photographs again makes me think of summer and I cant wait for the warm weather again.

Back To Nature

Sometimes things in life can get a little crazy! I overwork at times and forget to take the time for myself. This is when a nice walk does wonders. I also enjoy looking at my favorite places in photos that I have been and revisit them in my mind. I create a little bit of peace and quiet just for awhile. Its amazing when I do this, how much energized I feel afterwards and I am ready to get back to work and can tackle anything. I noticed what an effect that color has on me too and love the greens and the woodsy feel in these photos. Hope you enjoy them too:)

The weekend

Had a relaxing weekend. Its always nice when there is a holiday thrown into my busy schedule forcing me to stop and refresh. I spent time at the ranch in Colfax with my mother and father in laws and lots of other family. I love the property they own, its so nice to get away and visit, Its like camping in your own yard on 26 acres of paradise, with dear, coyotes, bear and mountain lion roaming the property. You never know what you will see. My daughter brought back 3 rattlesnake skins which were 3.5 feet long after roaming around taking pictures. Huge snakes around there! Not the nicest snakes either. I don't like rattlesnakes!
I am not to fond of anything except the deer. I did manage to take a picture of one this morning but didn't get the baby fawn which disappeared quickly into the trees. Still had its spots. A year ago I ran into the mountain lion when I was exiting the motor home and it leaped a 15 foot fence escaping before my husband was able to take its picture. It makes you a little more cautious about wandering around or letting your children out of your sight for too long.
I spent some time taking pictures of the dragonflies zipping around the pond.. wow they are quick! This one looks like he is playing the flute. I am happy to be back at home and start back to work tomorrow.

Relaxation

Isn't he the prettiest bunny! I took him out in the yard today and he just lounged. I did the same thing. It looked like a good idea, I have been working on the computer all morning and needed some fresh air. There is nothing like a little time in the garden and a change in scenery to help stimulate ideas and get motivated to work on something new.

Honeysuckle

I was working on the buckles of the bag and remembered that the honeysuckle is blooming and
that is the time the hawk moths come out and drink the nectar quickly darting everywhere. A couple of years ago we had so many moths that the bats were dodging down to catch them. That was an amazing sight! My camera is not the greatest for this kind of thing but I did manage to get a shot of one of them.

Warm and Cool Color Challenge

Ok, I'm a little late at putting something together but I did it. I thought about flowers of course and found an old photograph I took of some yellow flowers; not sure why the name is not coming to me right now? anyway, I decided to focus on this electric blue material and used my recycled fused dyed dryer sheets and applied to background , then crazy stitched it to add some dimension and interest. Measures about 8 x 8 inches. Now, time to make dinner!

And here is a picture of a female peacock I saw when I went back to the ranch this afternoon. Still not the best picture but I might be able to get some good ones later. I think they are so interesting. I guess I am fairly fascinated with nature and wildlife.

Peavine walk

With everything else that is going on right now, I have a quilt group get together tomorrow night and I haven't started on my challenge. Bad girl! So today I am going to put something together. The challenge is warm and cool colors. We'll see where that takes me:)
I took a few pics on my walk yesterday of Peavine Mountain and all the wildflowers I saw
along the way. You can see the snow on Mt Rose still. The walk is so nice. I love the desert flowers. I don't remember there ever being this many of them up there before.

Looks so dry doesn't it? I love living so close to so many places to hike.

This morning on my way back from the ranch in Verdi
I saw some peacocks on a roof. They are so pretty. Maybe I will get some better pictures of them in the weeks to come that I can share.

The Park

On my walk this morning, I realized how much I just love this park. It has such an amazing mix of wildlife and amazing variety of plant life. I am looking forward to the Botanical sale that is taking place in June at the park where I am hoping to pick up something new and unusual. One plant I absolutely have to have this summer is Showy milkweed. The butterflies, especially Monarchs are suppose to love this plant and I wouldn't mind having a few of those on my yard. Every year I like to add a few new drought tolerant plants to the yard, since we are in the desert. I managed to snap a few pictures of flowers and critters while I was there.

The cutest little duckling was following her mama. Have you ever seen anything so adorable in all your life? Well, it's time to get to work. The artsy bag is turning into a messenger bag and looking great. Hope to finish a couple things today and get working on the rose bag I was wanting to start. Hope to have more to share with you later:)

White Angel

I want to share this with you. I was walking a the the park and this beautiful duck came up to me. I sat by her for a very long time watching her fluff her feathers and splash in the lake. I was lucky enough to get this picture of her. I visit her often on the days I am walking. I think she is so beautiful!!!
